Money on Rails

Terms of Service

Last updated: [date of first publication]

These terms govern your use of Money on Rails (the “Service”), operated by [Legal Name / Entity — TBD before legal review] (“we,” “us”). By creating an account, you agree to them.

Money on Rails is not affiliated, associated, or in any way officially connected with YNAB or any of its subsidiaries or affiliates. “YNAB” and the YNAB logo are trademarks of YNAB, Inc.

What Money on Rails is

Money on Rails is a read-only analytics companion for your YNAB budget. It connects to YNAB through YNAB’s own API, with your authorization, to compute and display an Adherence Rating, a Budget Quality Rating, and a category-expense breakdown that YNAB doesn’t natively show you. We never write to, modify, or delete anything in your actual YNAB Budget.

Fees

Money on Rails is currently offered free of charge during its invitation-only period. If we ever introduce paid plans, we’ll announce the change and give existing users advance notice before any fee applies to them.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use Money on Rails to:

We may suspend or terminate access for a violation of these terms.

Your content

You own the budget data you connect through YNAB. We store a synced copy of it (and the ratings and classifications we compute from it) only to operate the Service for you, as described in our Privacy Policy. We claim no ownership over your budget data.

Everything about how Money on Rails itself works — its code, design, and the ratings methodology — belongs to us or our licensors.

Cancellation and account deletion

You can delete your account at any time from your account settings, or by emailing us. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what happens to your data, on what timeline, and the one thing we can’t do for you (revoke your YNAB grant at YNAB’s end — you’ll need to do that yourself in your YNAB account settings if you want it fully revoked).

We may suspend or terminate your account for a violation of these terms, or if your YNAB Connection becomes permanently unusable (for example, if YNAB revokes it and it’s never reconnected).

Changes to the Service and to these terms

We may update Money on Rails and these terms over time. If a change means we’ll access new kinds of YNAB data or use your data in a new way, we’ll update our Privacy Policy and, where YNAB’s own rules require it, ask for your renewed consent before the change takes effect. We review these terms and our Privacy Policy at least every 6–12 months against YNAB’s API Terms of Service and current law.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

Money on Rails is provided “as is.” The ratings and classifications it produces are informational and are not financial advice. We don’t guarantee the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we’re not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of it, to the fullest extent the law allows.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, regardless of where you or we are located.
